history

The Little Elm Fire Department was founded in 1960 as the all-volunteer department as the Denton County Rural Fire Prevention District No. 1. Today, Little Elm Fire Department (LEFD) is entirely a career organization with over 64 full-time employees and three fire stations. The LEFD covers approximately 66 miles of shoreline along Lewisville Lake and 19 square miles of land and water within the Town’s incorporated limits.

As the department evolves, so do the needs of our members. The Little Elm Firefighters Association (LEFFA) was established in the year 2000. The goal of the Little Elm Firefighters Association is to represent our committed members by maintaining an open and healthy relationship with the Town of Little Elm and the citizens we serve while maintaining the balance of protecting our members. Our priority will always be to protect jobs, secure better wages, benefits, working conditions, rights and retirement security while providing better services to our community. Our responsibility is to identify and address the issues, concerns, and/or grievances of our members. The Little Elm Firefighters Association takes great pride in staying involved & giving back to the people of Little Elm who have given us the opportunity to serve them. We are always looking for new opportunities to find a need and fill a need within our great community.

Little Elm Firefighters Association Local 4220 is proud to be part of the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters (TSAFF). We are one of over 3,300 locals across the United States and Canada, made-up of over 320,000 firefighters, all part of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF).
